Foundations of Building Expertise
This course compares and contrasts theories of how technology is used to help individuals learn effectively to enhance performance improvement. By studying learning theories students use technology to create problem-based training and development opportunities for individuals, teams, and organizations. Students explore the influence of technical integration into learning, specifically training and development for the ultimate aim of improving organizational performance. Clarke, R. C. (2008).

We hear a lot about learning technologies. Just what are they? List one or two learning technologies that you have heard about or used. Explain why this can be considered a technology and, more specifically, a learning technology. Be sure to cite your sources using APA format.
Hello Class,
Learning technologies are, an umbrella term that describes communication, information and technological tools used to enhance learning, teaching and assessment. This may involve computer-based learning or multimedia materials used to supplement in-class activities. Mobile and gamification are a few learning technologies that I have heard about. It can be considered a technology and learning technology because of the information that it can provide. For the mobile that is considered s smartphone which we all have used and base our life around for communication, transportation and much more. So it is important to learn this feature so that you can advance to the level of technology. “The use of mobile learning applications in current conditions and the challenges of learning in the digital era, has become a necessity and cannot be avoided for efficiency and effectiveness in learning anywhere and anytime. This study aims to analyze the Effect of Learning Readiness and Community Learning Toward Technology Management and Mobile Learning. Besides that, it also looks at how effective the application of mobile learning applications is in learning.” (Jamaris, Hendra Hidayat, & Muji, A. P. (2021). Pg. 20–32.

Advancements in technology have helped create engaging, interactive, and supporting learning environments for organizations and members. Furthermore, learning technologies have become increasing important due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Learning technologies have enhanced flexibility and accessibility to learning material throughout social distancing measures. Learning technologies also help generate, collect, and process data through implementing electronic devices and systems throughout performance improvement interventions (Victoria State Government, 2019).
A learning technology that is widely used and included in devices is audio scene recognition. Audio scene recognition is considered a type of technology because it extracts, processes, and delivers information from sound, supported by a machine (Sun, 2021). Audio scene recognition allows a device to recognize the current environment, detect sound, and convey information. Devices using audio scene recognition are considered learning technologies because they can detect hazards and supply updates or reminders to help eliminate risk. Audio scene recognition also allows a person to practice a task and receive feedback. Additionally, devices using audio scene recognition technology support a metacognitive training, in which learners are provided a map of problem-solving steps, and then compared to an expert map (Clark, 2008).
Even though the Apple Watch is not a standard device used for classroom learning, the Apple Watch still operates as a learning technology. For example, I currently own an Apple Watch that uses audio scene recognition to provide sleep data and feedback. The Apple Watch tracks sleep by detecting micro-movements through the watch’s accelerometer and microphone. Learning takes place because I can learn how to improve my sleep and obtain optimal hours to increase my health. Additionally, the device maps out a person’s progress through displaying a weekly chart showing sleep goals, current sleep range, and any changes in sleep trend. Overall, the Apple Watch is considered a learning technology because users can learn what routines provide the best sleep, how stress is affecting their sleep, how to visualize their goals, and ultimately learn how to live a healthy lifestyle.
