Popular culture means the majority of population have the common beliefs, values and objects which dominant the minority population. Popular culture is the accumulation of cultural products such as music, art, literature, fashion, dance, film, cyber culture, television and radio that are consumed by the majority of a society’s population. Popular culture has mass accessibility and appeal. Pop culture also encourages political participation and has an affect in the presidential election. Famous figures have an amazing platform to inform and engage their fans in the electoral process. Sharing a message that political participation can be easy, fun and impact may be what pushes them to register to vote. Saskia Postema (2017) mentioned in a vlog, “The US has a history of harnessing the power of pop culture in politics, such as celebrity endorsements for presidential candidates. But while there used to be a rather large group of celebrities choosing to maintain an apolitical stance, this no longer seems to be the norm in 2020. Think of people like Cardi B, who has been outspoken about the importance to educate ourselves on the political process and what policies are essentially on the ballot. She has hosted multiple Instagram Lives, talking directly to politicians who are up for election, asking them what they stand for.” The article also mentions a campaign that aims to mobilize at least 1 million young Americans to register to vote. It states, “celebrities across the board are offering exclusive experiences, signed items, performances and even masterclasses as rewards to eligible voters who have checked their voter registration status. There are signed vinyls by Billie Eilish or her brother FINNEAS, virtual meet & greets with DJ Khaled, Madison Beer or Kaia Gerber, a fashion masterclass with Donna Karan, and signed guitars by either Taylor Swift or Shawn Mendes – as well as so many other items.” (Postema, 2017) Popular culture can have an effect in political opinions because an individual might be influenced by what their role model or favorite celebrity’s involvement is towards the running presidential candidate. I think this would be beneficial for candidates but not for society because this could put the country’s authority in wrong hands. people should choose what they think is right not the influence of others. These celebrities who are their role models may get paid for giving their support but at the end of the day wrong president can be trouble for entire nation.

How were politics apparent in popular culture during the most recent presidential election? Give specific examples
Popular culture implies most of the populace have the basic convictions, qualities and articles which predominant the minority populace. Mainstream society is the amassing of social items like music, craftsmanship, writing, design, dance, film, cyberculture, TV and radio that are devoured by most of a general public’s populace.Popular culture has mass openness and allure. During the new official political race between Hillary Clinton and Trump, the two of them attempted to exploit mainstream society as far as superstar impact on the grounds that these big names address a great many individuals in the US and they follow them. For instance, assuming one superstar is supporting one up-and-comer, there are high possibilities that the adherents of that specific big name would offer a vote to that competitor. Popular culture’s ability to express the voice of groups excluded from the political arena, consolidate identity politics and correspond with critical theory (Manhaimer,2019).
What effect can popular culture have on people’s political opinions?
Pop culture can have an effect on people’s political opinion. In the article it states, politics and popular culture have intersected for as long as there has been popular culture, says Dr. Eric Kasper, an assistant professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Politicians have long made use of popular culture, particularly as they have tried to attach themselves to celebrities and their popularity (Berthiaume, 2015). Therefore, it can have an influence on certains people’s political views if politicians connect themselves with celebrities.
Is pop culture’s effect on the communication of political ideas beneficial or harmful to society?
Pop culture affects society in many ways. The first and most rudimentary effect of pop culture is how it builds and strengthens interactions with people who are also into the same kind of things. Pop culture helps people grow and be more accepting considering the vast amount of representation throughout the various genres in pop cultures. There have been instances and reports about students taking an interest in Chemistry because of Breaking Bad or history because of Dr. Who.(for a more detailed study:) It is even speculated that the Motorola flip phone was inspired by Star Trek. As said by Pixie and his friends, pop culture icons even influence them on stage while portraying a character because they tend to draw similarities between the two characters (Ratha,2017). It can be harmful and beneficial depending on the agenda that is being put out.
