Your healthcare facility was nominated for the STAR HIE (Strengthening and Technical Advancement & Readiness of Public Health via Health Information Exchange) Program
The STAR HIE Program is a $5 million cooperative agreement program that is designed to strengthen and expand the ability of health information exchanges (HIEs) to support public health agencies in their response to public health emergencies and pandemics such as Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID‑19).
Because of this nomination it will be important for all healthcare professionals at your facility to become familiar with the concepts of interoperability and the functions of the HIE that the healthcare faciliy participates in.
1. Describe the importance of HIE participation at the healthcare facility.
2. Share the concepts of interoperability and the goal of nationwide interoperability. Feel free review the healthcareIT.gov website.
3. Describe the legislation that has helped increase the use of HIEs : Meaningful Use, MIPS and MACRA – information in Chapter 11
4. Discuss the HIE model that the healthcare facility is currently participating in. (Just pick one of which models, do not explain all)
5. Discuss the method used by the HIE to exchange electronic information. (Just pick one of method, do not explain all)
6. Explain how the privacy of the patient will be protected when participating in the HIE.
