Intellectual property, which is also known as IP can be understood in 4 ways. The 4 ways are patents trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. For this week’s assignment I researched Apple’s IP. Apple is an extremely well known and successful company that is distinguished. Apple protecting their IP is extremely important and vital. Their IP specifically is detailed (cited, apple.com) as patents, trademarks, and copyright. Apple is truly an established brand so without protections in place there would be huge risk. The brand could be tarnished and misrepresented. As a large company and brand Apple has guidelines in place to ensure these protections. The guidelines are for any third parties using Apple trademark and copyrights. (Cited, apple.com) As an established and legally backed company Apple has the authority and ability to prohibit use of trademarks unless they expressly authorize. Apple is so prestige that their service mark’s trademark, trade names, and trade dress are classified as valuable assets. Apple also provides and offers an online form where resources can be requested regarding IP and trademark.
