For example, if the payroll application is connected to a server in another country using TCP port 443 (SSL), I would be aware that this traffic must be authorized by the access control list (ACL). Wireshark may be used to collect current traffic to validate the examined data. However, I would not depend only on it since you would see any communication, malicious or not, regardless of its importance to the objective.
