PERFUSION CASE STUDY: Hypertension
Melinda Genmar is a 42-year-old woman with primary hypertension. She is married to Tom, who has a 17-year-old son, Paul, from a previous marriage. Yvonne and Tom have two children together, Sabrina, 14, and Charlie, 3. Mr. Genmar runs his own business installing sprinkler systems, and Mrs. Genmar is a real estate agent and home inspector. Mrs. Genmar spends a great deal of time in her car showing houses and taking the kids to their various after-school activities.
Mrs. Genmar’s mother has type 2 diabetes; her father is fairly healthy. Mrs. Genmar has been prescribed several different antihypertensives, but her BP remains elevated. Most recently, she was placed on captopril 50 mg twice a day, which seems to be maintaining her BP within acceptable limits.
