Thesis statement: Video games can decrease students’ focus on schoolwork and decrease learning motivation.

The thesis paper is an argumentative paper based on your thesis statement. You are responsible for completing this paper in APA style and format and submit it to the assignment box located in Module 7. Furthermore, the paper is an original work, NOT a compilation of your annotated bibliographies (Please see the Permanent Announcement and SLU Policy regarding recycling papers, in whole or in part).

Please be sure that you have an introductory paragraph that introduces the topic with your thesis statement. Make sure that your thesis statement stands out in the introduction. It is the purpose of your paper.

In the body of the paper, use at least 15 peer-reviewed, preferably primary source articles to support your argument. You can use more than 15 sources, but 15 must be peer reviewed sources. The paper must be at least 10 pages (double-spaced, 12-point font) in length (including the title and reference pages). References must be recent (preferably no more than 10 years old) references from peer-reviewed journals (preferably primary sources). The body of the paper should support your thesis statement.

Finally, please include a summary/concluding paragraph(s) that discuss whether you have supported your thesis, and briefly why.

You also must not only review the literature; you must focus on a particular perspective in psychology and trace it to its philosophical/historical origins.  For example, you could discuss some current research supporting the evolutionary psychological perspective and then trace this perspective back to its philosophical roots.  The paper will account for 30% of the final grade.

Summary

The student will use peer reviewed (preferably primary source) research articles to provide support for their thesis statement.  The paper should include an introductory paragraph with a clear statement of the thesis. Remember, your thesis statement must stand out, it’s the purpose of your paper. In the body of the paper, the student will also be required to synthesize relevant material to provide compelling support for their thesis statement utilizing at least 15 peer reviewed articles (please stick to research that is no more than 10 years old).  You also must not only review the literature; you must focus on a particular perspective in psychology and trace it to its philosophical/historical origins. For example, you could discuss some current research supporting the evolutionary psychological perspective and then trace this perspective back to its philosophical roots. The final section of the paper should include a short summary and conclusions based on the findings presented in the paper.
