  1. What is the author’s claim in the selected reading? In other words, what do you believe the author wants their audience to learn or understand better once they’ve finished reading?

It is valid that the authors claim in the selected article on Mother Tongue is that when born into families where relatives are the case, parents make one learn English as their second language. It allows one to talk differently than those who are taught English as their first and primary language. The author of the article states that children whose parents lead have a different perception of language than those who might learn in school or who use English as their primary language. Amy Tan wants the reader to understand that there is nothing for one to be ashamed of only when their parents are not native English speakers. Through that experience and show up, one has to apply the verdict of present-day life, which shows that most readers can overcome any form of embarrassment which she felt in growing up. Most of the essential issues are applied towards one’s professional career, which leads to success. From the article, Tan explains that she is not a scholar or an expert of the English language where she has an incredible passion for the language and the different variances which come along with language variation. This shows that Amy explains that the broken English sounds more comfortable to her and has adapted it in the verdict of a great manner.

Some of the key points which are considered in this article focus on education in the use of English and the general reflection about how ideas dissect language. The mother of the author is a Chinese native, which makes her have difficulty gaining respect when it comes to the manner of navigation of life in America. Tan and her joint spouse spoke at times broken English with each other after their progress in marriage which was an intimate issue that occurs between two different levels of people. Her mother goes to extend and says this is an example of her daily and mother speaking impact. “Why he does not my check already in two weeks late” is an example of the language that was imposed and broken in its accurate analysis (Tongue, 2003). So mad led to his lie in losing money where the author talks about the way she felt about her mother’s second language. Tan felt high ashamed and embarrassed about the issue. She mentioned how her mother uses her to translate daily from talking to the stockbroker and doctors office rationale.

The article of Mother Tongue by Amy Tan targets mostly the audience of the first generation of Asian Americans whose parents spoke English with a certain accent. This is extremely limited on how the English reflect. Tans mother has the ascent of two languages that she says and includes native language, Chinese and English, which is considered the second language. The author has no impression of targeting Asian mothers only and on the other ethnic groups of people. Tan was also reaching the Americans who do not experience translating to their parent’s native language. A minority of the people who arise from America come to work to provide for their families. Again, a minority of the people usually take time off to spare time and go back to school to learn English and speak fluently. However, they still rely on children to teach them the new concepts on how to speak in English.

The author’s writing style allows one to connect with her audience. Tan’s inventive writing has brought about aphorism in the article. Her main objective is to inform her audience and create an awareness of people’s lack of understanding based on the extreme English sentence structure. The author acknowledges the need for compromise and fluidity, which arise in communicating with people from diverse backgrounds. The target of the author’s audience is people of various diverse ethnic backgrounds. She is consistently making an effort to reach out and make sure that they feel comfortable at home while reading most of the materials (Tongue, 2003). Even though someone may acknowledge this impact on fluent speaking skills, it is good to be eloquent based on how the issue does not exclude people who can follow changes and diverse perceptions.

The author makes a unique, strong point in most suggestive matters though the language is broken due to conversation. Although she is repeating about herself and maybe there is a slight alteration, it is abundant to show moral view and inclusive view on the person extreme view which is valid. As indicated in the article, it is quite a common problem with the large portion having alignment with the American population. People should therefore keep in mind the idea of being more considerate than others. The present is not to say that we need to satisfy and enable non-English speakers to defend on mostly elusive and understanding key on communication (Tongue, 2003). It is an issue that needs acknowledgment, especially if it has an inclusive manner on how the fact of judgment works out.
