Article Reference

  • When you find your article and figure out the design, post that information here. Your report should look like this:
  1. The article reference is…
  2. The design is…
  3. I know this because…

  • There are two ways to complete this comprehension check (choose one):
  1. Identify an IV that should not have a carry over effect.

or

  1. Critique (in a constructive way) someone else’s proposed IV that won’t have a carry over effect if you disagree with their assessment.

  • What are possible DVs of interest to psychologists that have multiple causes and would be appropriate for factorial research? For example, I said exam grade is the kind of DV that should be investigated with factorial research because multiple causes (e.g., study time, sleep) affect grades.

To complete this comprehension check, post the DV you have identified along with some of the possible causes for that DV (you need at least two causes).

  • Go back to the question you asked in Notes 1 Try It for Yourself comprehension check . How would you go about answering that question? Choose a design below and answer the questions that would be relevant for that design. I’ve given you some suggested questions, but not a comprehensive list.

Observation: Which type of observation would be appropriate? What will you measure? What are your concerns about the data? What will your chi-square table look like?

Survey/correlation: What variables will you measure? What are your concerns about the design? How will you set up your scatterplot?

Experiment: Which design will you use? Evaluate some of the threats relevant for your design. Do you have a proposed graph of the data?

Quasi-experiment: Which design will you use? Why? What are some of your concerns about the threats to internal validity? Can you work out a graph of the data that would show a treatment effect?

There might not be time to comment on one another’s posts, so that is not required. But, review other people’s posts and comment if you can. This is your chance to offer some final support to one another as we complete the course.

Notes 1 comprehension check

Post a substantive, empirical research question about an area of psychology related to your interests.

  • Substantive: A meaningful research question about a psychology topic (e.g., “does depression influence the severity of eating disorders?”).
  • Empirical: We could answer your question with research.

Answer: How does a death of a parent have an effect on the child’s mental health especially when they were super close?
