The Periodontist has now signed off on Lucas’s treatment plan. You are now required to call the patient and to explain the proposed treatment plan. Use the information from the CT report and from the client Treatment Plan to develop your script. You must use appropriate dental terminology in your script. Do not use abbreviations when speaking to the client, you must use the full name of the terminology. For this assessment, you can assume that the patient does not ask any questions whilst you are speaking.
You may wish to use the following as a guide:
• Introduce yourself to the patient (practice name, your name and role).
• Brief description of why you are calling.
• Describe the treatment plan for the patient including any relevant dental terminology relating the diagnosis, symptoms, specialist treatment.. You are being assessed on your ability to communicate dental terminology to patients. Ensure that your script contains a minimum of 10 medical/dental terms and that you use these appropriately.
• Your script can end once you have described the above treatment plan to the patient and you are ready to book his appointments. You do not need to include a script for booking the appointments.
Example format:
‘Good Morning Lucas, my name is (your name) and I am an Dental Assistant from 123 Dental Health. I am calling today in regards to the treatment plan that Dr Lew has developed for you. I can see that you have been emailed a copy of this report from Dr Lew but I will just quickly explain the terminology contained in this report and the treatment plan before we go ahead and book your appointments.
