4a. The basis of infection prevention in wound care is understanding the chain of infection.

Describe the chain of infection and how it relates to wound care. Your response must include:

Infection transmission including entry and exit from the body, Defences and Immunity and risk factors in the host.

4b. Describe the three (3) types of infection that occur in or cause a wound or skin breakdown. For each type of infection describe the signs and symptoms specific to that type of infection.

4c. Use the NSQHS Standards and the Australian Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines to answer the question. As an enrolled nurse how can you ensure your practice, the practice of your colleagues and the policies and procedures of your organisation are compliant with and maintain compliance with these standards and guidelines.
