People with limited broadband access or digital skills may struggle to obtain critical health information, leading to potential health disparities and reduced health literacy (Braveman & Gottlieb, 2014b). Telehealth and telemedicine have become essential tools in providing healthcare services, especially in remote or underserved areas. Lack of broadband access can hinder people’s ability to access virtual healthcare consultations, which is crucial for timely medical interventions.

Research by Ma et al. (2022) indicates that Digital inclusion can play a vital role in reducing social isolation, especially for vulnerable populations like the elderly or those with mobility challenges. Broadband access enables them to stay connected with their loved ones, access online support groups, and engage in social activities that can positively impact mental health. some ways in which social isolation can affect mental health include Increased Risk of Mental Health Disorders, according to a research by Locsin et al. (2021) Prolonged social isolation is associated with a higher risk of developing mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. The lack of social support and emotional connection can exacerbate existing mental health conditions or trigger new ones. Being socially isolated can lead to feelings of loneliness and sadness. These emotions can further contribute to a negative cycle, making it more challenging to engage in social activities and seek support. Lack of digital inclusion can also exacerbate existing socioeconomic inequalities. People without broadband access may face barriers in accessing online job opportunities, educational resources, and social services, affecting their overall well-being and health.

Addressing social determinants of health disparities and its impact often involves implementing policies and interventions aimed at reducing inequalities, promoting equal opportunities, and providing support to vulnerable populations (Locsin et al., 2021b).
