The term “intersectionality” refers to the manner in which different types of inequality, such as those based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and class, “intersect” with one another to produce new and distinct dynamics and effects. For instance, in the case of a Muslim woman who wears the hijab and is subjected to prejudice, it would be impossible to separate her female identity from her Muslim identity and to single out the factor or factors that are responsible for her being treated differently.
