WRITING UP A CASE STUDY ANALYSIS

Often, as part of your course requirements, you will need to present your instructor with a written case analysis. This may be an individual or a group report. Whatever the situation, there are certain guidelines to follow in writing a case analysis that will improve the evaluation your work will receive from your instructor.

Each of the Comprehensive Case Studies is very different. Be sure to read and re-read the ‘Your Assignment’ part of the case to see what it is asking of you. Address the project to the party or parties that it asks you to. This case is different from the cases provided in the chapters, do not summarize the case unless it asks you to.

This assignment is very close to a real-world application. This is something that you very well could be asked to do from your superiors or your clients. Be sure to turn in work that you would present to your boss or your clients. Make it a professional document; add visual aids and/or a cover sheet. Avoid grammatical and spelling errors, they make the paper sloppy. Use plenty of headings and subheadings to structure your analysis. For example, have separate sections on any important conceptual tool you use. Tailor the sections and subsections to the specific issues of importance in the case.

I do not provide you with an example of a superior paper because I want you to put your own flair on the assignment. These cases are quite complex, in order to get all the information they ask of you it should take at least four pages, double-spaced.

Researching subject matter will help you to understand the subject matter and to defend your stance in the case. I understand that you would not normally cite research when presenting to clients, but for this purpose, I do want credit given. Using relevant OB terms from your textbook will also help you to take what you are learning in the course and apply it in a real-world setting in the case study.
