Your patient’s admitting doctor has requested urgent pathology tests and leaves an order script at the nurses’ station. When you check the order for pathology collection, the in- instructions for the specific tests are not clear. Briefly describe the appropriate actions or response in this situation as the nurse?

2. In health care consent to treatment is a person’s agreement for a health professional to proceed with a specific proposed treatment or intervention. Consent is sought after communicating with the person about the proposed treatment, intervention or processes.

3. It is 2.30 pm and you are nearing completing your shift on the ward. You are preparing to make an entry in progress notes recording the nursing care provided for the shift. You pro-vided care for Bill and elderly patient. Bill, requires assistance as he has limited mobility and uses a wheelchair. You assisted with ADLs as per his care plan and any other requested assistance as required. Earlier at 1300 hours Bill had requested some panadol which is written up in the PRN orders.

You administered 1000mg as per PRN orders. Bill says he is pain-free and comfortable when you reviewed him prior to making your progress notes entry. Bill is expecting his wife and son to visit later and is looking forward to it. Bill has a Blood test (FBE, U & Es) ordered for the next day morning which is to be booked by staff on the next shift. No issues or problems experienced during the shift.
